Why Do We Experience All-Pervasive Suffering?
In this episode, I explore the concept of all-pervasive suffering, the third of the three marks of existence in Buddhism. This type of suffering, often unrecognized, arises not from external circumstances but from our conditioned mind and the "shoulds" we impose on life, others, and ourselves. Key takeaways include understanding that suffering often stems from the gap between reality and our expectations, and that the Western myth of original sin can exacerbate this by creating a sense of inherent flaw. To work with all-pervasive suffering, I suggest shifting from "should" to "could," embracing our feelings and thoughts without judgment, and exploring the underlying beliefs that cause self-inflicted discomfort, ultimately leading to greater insight and acceptance.
