No Going Back
In this episode, I explore the concept of "no going back" through the lens of impermanence and the unidirectional flow of life. Drawing from a Zen koan about an enlightened one returning to the ordinary world, I discuss how profound understanding, like seeing a hidden image in an optical illusion or becoming a parent, permanently changes our perspective, making a return to a previous state impossible. This idea emphasizes that life is a constant process of change, akin to a game of Tetris where new pieces continuously alter the game, and there is no true "normal" to return to. The practical application lies in cultivating faith in our own ability to adapt and skillfully navigate these changes, rather than resisting them or seeking external validation, which helps us avoid unnecessary suffering and find peace amidst life's unfolding events.
