Wisdom and Fear
In this episode, I explore the nature of fear from a Buddhist perspective, distinguishing between skillful fears that prompt wise action and unskillful fears that lead to unskillful behavior. I discuss how many of our fears, particularly those related to rejection or judgment, stem from ignorance—mistaking a "coiled hose" for a "snake"—and are exacerbated by our aversion to experiencing fear itself, creating a "fear of fear." By applying Buddhist concepts like craving and the three poisons, I suggest that gaining wisdom and insight into the roots of our fears, rather than trying to eliminate them, allows us to change our relationship with them, leading to more authentic and skillful living, much like the Buddha's encounter with Angulimala.
