Everything Is Best
In this episode, I explore three Zen koans: "The Calling Card," "Everything is Best," and "Inch Time Foot Gem." I share what these koans mean to me, emphasizing that the true value lies in your personal interpretation rather than a fixed meaning. "The Calling Card" invites us to examine the labels and titles we attach to ourselves and others, encouraging authenticity over ego-driven presentations, much like Brené Brown's work on vulnerability. "Everything is Best" challenges the tendency to rank experiences as good, better, or best, suggesting instead that each moment is unique and inherently valuable, shifting our perspective from comparison to appreciation. Finally, "Inch Time Foot Gem" reinforces this by highlighting that each moment is a precious, unrepeatable gem, urging us to appreciate the present experience for its uniqueness, whether pleasant or unpleasant, leading to a more compassionate and insightful way of navigating life.
