Three Approaches for Doubt and Mistrust
In this episode, I explore the crucial role of doubt and mistrust on the Buddhist path, drawing parallels to modern-day skepticism towards information. I introduce the concept of the "three stages of doubt" from Tibetan Buddhism, which involves leaning toward a fact, leaning toward its distortion, or tending equally toward both, encouraging a beginner's mind and liberation from attachment to fixed views. This practice is vital for weakening wrong views and developing skillful perspectives by testing teachings against personal experience, rather than blindly accepting them, ultimately fostering an open, curious, and non-attached approach to understanding reality.
