Endings And Beginnings
In this episode, I explore the Buddhist understanding of endings and beginnings, using the Zen kōan "No Water, No Moon" as a starting point. This kōan illustrates how our conditioned mind, like a pail reflecting the moon, creates perceptions that obscure reality. I discuss how clinging to these perceptions, or to the pail itself, prevents us from seeing things as they truly are. A key takeaway is that embracing the impermanence of all things, including pleasant experiences, can lead to greater peace. By confronting the fear of pain associated with endings, rather than trying to avoid it, we can find liberation and appreciate the new beginnings that inevitably arise from change. This perspective offers practical relevance for navigating life's transitions with less fear and more skill.
