Beware Of The Guru Mind
In this episode, I explore the concept of the "guru mind," or the tendency to seek external guidance rather than looking inward. Using the analogy of paramotoring, I illustrate how a teacher (or "guru") acts as a towline, essential for learning but ultimately meant to be detached when the student is ready to fly independently. I emphasize that both the "kite" (dependent learner) and the "bird" (independent learner) are valid paths, and the key is self-understanding to discern which is skillful for you. The core teaching is that true liberation comes from recognizing yourself as the source of your actions and feelings, rather than relying on external figures or systems, and that Buddhism itself can become an obstacle if we attach to it too rigidly. This understanding encourages introspection and self-reliance, ultimately inviting us to be our own greatest teacher.
